In a world where trucks and SUVs are purchased specifically to drive on paved surfaces, the need for highway tires becomes one of the best-selling types of tires in the world. Highway tires are specially designed to make your truck or SUV ride better on the road. Compared to all field tires, they are more comfortable, have better traction and grip, and have faster stability. You can still find it.
The thing is, the market is flooded with highway tires, and it becomes increasingly difficult to choose a seat that suits your particular car or driving style. As expected, Firestone is also racing to its destination with LE2 tires. The Bridgestone-owned company has a very broad light truck portfolio covering passenger and commercial trucks.

Its predecessor, the LE, was a very popular tire in the truck community due to its low cost and good traction, but the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire still strives to improve in every way. Firestone even says the Destination LE2 is good for crossovers, but we’d only recommend it for very large three-row crossovers. The reason is simple – the floor LE2 isn’t the most responsible tire around, which is something most crossover owners often find in their vehicles.
Suitable models for the LE2 floor are Chevrolet Colorado, Equinox and Silverado, Ford Escape, Explorer, Ranger and F150, GMC Acadia, Sierra, and Yukon, Jeep Compass, Patriot, and Cherokee, Sia Sorrento, Land. Rover LR2, Nissan Frontier, Range Rover, Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Highlander etc. Certain sizes can fit on smaller crossovers, such as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, or Mazda CX-7, but there are better options for these models, in our opinion.
Firestone Destination LE2 Tire is available in sizes between 15-20 inches, width 215 to 275 mm and side wall height between 50 and 75. What are the features of Firestone Destination LE2 Tire?
According to Firestone Destination LE2 Tire is designed to “be with you.” It’s definitely a good slog, but more importantly, the LE2 is an all-season highway tire designed for all-season performance. Manufacturers even say that this tire provides traction in winter conditions, which most people misunderstand – head to the snow section to see it. In addition to all-season traction, the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire is designed to be quiet and comfortable, as is expected from highway tyres.
Firestone achieved this with a number of design decisions that are standard in most highway tires. First, the floor is equipped with the LE2 continuous closed shoulder block that increases dry traction, but also improves wear life. Then, the wide grooves help drain water from the tires for better performance in heavy rain, while the notch and zigzag sips help for better traction in light snow. On top of that, the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire has improved noise settings for a quieter ride on the highway and better wider areas for wet traction.
The tire’s internal structure is also standard for this range, consisting of twin steel belts reinforced with tightly wrapped nylon. Is it good for off-road driving?
Considering the fact that the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire is designed for use on SUVs and trucks, it should be good for off-road driving, right? Well, to be honest, it’s not like that here. Not so with most highway tires. These Firestone tires are designed for off-road use only, not for off-road driving.
That said, if you have a model with an all-wheel-drive system, you can still put some traction on lighter areas, such as gravel. In these conditions, the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire can provide you with enough traction for a safe driving experience. Anything else, such as clay or sand, is not recommended. That is unless you want to get stuck, of course.
How does it behave on the dry tarmac?
This is the area where the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire should perform best – in dry conditions on paved roads. But what does it provide? Well, mostly. I don’t have anything bad to report here, plus maybe a little worse reaction than the tires focused on the crossover. In other words, if you want tires that give a sense of sport behind the wheel, the Firestone isn’t the best choice for you.
On the other hand, Firestone Destination LE2 Tire is completely safe in dry conditions. Traction is good, but still not at the level of the best premium tires – you can feel it on more powerful vehicles. However, there is no difference for the average driver. All the more significantly, the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire offers astounding security and short slowing down distances on the highway. The side-to-side grip is also great for highway tires.
Overall, the LE2 is definitely not the best tire when it comes to handling the floor – rivals from Mitchell and Bridgestone are certainly better. However, considering Firestone’s price tag, its performance is still pretty good, especially for the average truck and SUV driver.
How is it over wet and slippery roads?
It’s the same story with wet traction and grip. The Firestone Destination LE2 Tire isn’t perfect – we want a little more traction during hard acceleration. But that’s enough for most drivers who don’t drive like crazy. All the more significantly, the Firestone opposes hydroplaning well indeed – practically like the best tires. In its upper part, it stops in wet conditions without any hassle and no time and is usable in humid conditions. Overall, given the price of the re-tire, the destination here poses a very strong risk to the LE2.
With that being said, how is it on snowy roads?
Firestone appears to be really certain about how the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire treats snow, however that doesn’t mean you need to. This tire is perfect for those who live in areas with very little snowfall in winter. Traction, grip, and braking are almost as good in the colder months as in the summer and light snow too.
However, if you live in areas with severe winters and heavy snowfall, you may find Firestone Destination LE2 Tire completely useless. It lacks the proper traction of winter tires, and more importantly, braking can take ages. Also, Firestone looks bad on ice. If you want reliable performance in these conditions, do yourself a favor and buy a set of winter tires.
Is it comfortable and better?
Being a highway tire, the Firestone is very comfortable. More specifically, we consider it to be one of the most comfortable tires for trucks and SUVs, which is highly commendable considering the price of the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire. With a set of these tires, long road trips will feel more luxurious, that’s for sure.

If you’re in the market for a set of highway tires for your truck or SUV, you should at least consider the Firestone Destination LE2 Tire.
